Initial idea- Social Media - what are kids doing with it - A curse or a blessing.

Hi, and welcome to my blog. My name is Charlotte, and I am a 17 year old media enthusiast. Social media is something which has influenced my life since I was around 9 years of age, when I would browse through YouTube finding funny cat videos and watching people play video games. One thing which has become extremely interesting to me as of late is the fast-paced, broad growth of Social Media, and it's influence of today's youth- as that change may have influenced myself. As an enthusiastic media student, I feel that this topic is extremely valuable to my extended media learning, as well as extending my skills in independent research. One way I wish to extend my independent research skills will be by completing surveys and independently researching in-depth some of the media theorists I learn about in lessons, which may be useful in supporting the ideas my data will present.

The plan for my EPQ is to overall look into the ways in which the younger generation is using social media- and if they believe that they are using it just to post information, to communicate each other and to see how much time they think they spend online per day. I wish to test this by working with a group of younger people (most likely from my sixth form's secondary school, my old secondary school and the children of people I know) to question them on how much they believe they use it on a regular basis.

I will also use various studies about this topic- which there is bound to be no shortage of because this topic is an ongoing debate within the media, politicians and other enthusiasts like myself. I also wish to have a brief look into the parent's views of how children are influenced by social media, and if their habits have changed since they have allowed them to have social media accounts (if they have at all).
