One of the main aims of my EPQ is to ensure I have the skills required o access higher education, as I aspire to study Media Studies, and eventually plan to go onto teaching the subject due to the vast inspiration I have had from teachers I've had over the years (media studies teachers have been the most influential in my subject choices, and have inspired me to become a teacher in the future). The topic I have chosen relates to this subject greatly because the social media habits of children will be a brilliant way of understanding the ways in which generations below me have been affected by social media, so my future in teaching can be backed up with knowledge I have gained through this research. One particular skill I will need to do this is independent research. this is vital to going onto higher education because independent research makes up a large amount of the university courses I have applied for thus far, and so getting in early practice in this field will be extremely useful.
Another skill vital for my EPQ is video production. I do feel I am already quite competent in this skill due to the 4 years of media studies I have already completed, however documentary production is one area which I have not yet practiced. This added challenge of sticking to a serious, documentary style video will definitely help in my aspiration to become a teacher in the future, as one way in which I personally learn is through informational videos shown by my teachers. If I can master this skill and learn to produce my own videos efficiently, I feel I will be able to use this skill in the future to teach my future students.

Ethical considerations of my Primary Research.
Ethical considerations of my Primary Research.
When I complete my primary research task, I need to ensure that the ethical concerns faced with a survey are noted, and potential ethical issues are avoided. One of the first ethical issues when surveying young people is the use of their name, age and location etc. To ensure that there is no risk of a potential issue with this data being used, I will ensure that my surveys are anonymous, and only contain the participants age, year-group and gender identity. This way, I can see if there is a difference in data between different ages and genders, while still ensuring the data remains anonymous.
Another ethical concern with completing a survey is that the participants know exactly what the data is for, and in what way it will be used, and that the data is secure and anonymous. To do this, I aim to add a disclaimer to the footer of my survey which explains the above. The disclaimer will read as below;

"Completion of this form and the use of its data is optional and retractable- but greatly appreciated J the data collected in this survey will be used in an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) by Charlotte Bennett- which has a focus on the online media habits of the youth of today. Names will not be stated. Specific surveys may have their own individual mention- and all surveys will be sorted into various categories."This disclaimer should be sufficient in ensuring participants have full control over whether they complete the survey or not.
